The technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the movie is shown as a sequence.
Types OF Animation
Digital Animation is the illusion of movement of graphic(s) and/or text. Frame Based Animation is a series of individual still frames that create the illusion of animation when viewed continuously. Traditional Animation is when each frame and background is hand drawn. Rotoscope Animation is traced photographic or video images with a hand drawn appearance. Claymation Animation is clay characters or moquettes moved in small increments between still photographs. Stop Motion Animation is similar to claymation but with paper cut out shapes. Vector Animation uses computer generated formulas to make objects in the animation move along a path. 2D Animation uses two dimensions of movement in animation and has a flat look in appearance. 3D Animation uses three dimensions of movement and has more depth and realistic appearance.
File Formats
- .GIF: Use indexed color format (256 colors) which supports a simple transparency layer. - .FLA: Native project file used by Adobe Animate (flash). - .SWF: Flash animation format for use on the internet because it loads quickly.
Above is a project I did with a friend. We recreated The Wizard of OZ in stop motion. The hardest part of this project was probably having to move the papers so tediously as well as just using paper cut-outs in general.
